New Latisse for Longer Eyelashes, Are There Less Expensive Alternatives?

May 20th, 2009 by Contributor

Many of you have likely seen the recent ads on television or in magazines for Latisse, by Allergan. The 1st FDA approved prescription product for longer, thicker, fuller and darker eyelashes. But how does this compare to the others on the market sold by Salons and Medi Spas?

If you do a bit of research you will find that there are users of Revitalash, MD Lash Factor and even Jan Marini Eyelash Products that claim similar results….. the appearance of longer, thicker and darker lashes in a few weeks. But how do these products differ? For a start, they are less expensive then Latisse. The over the counter Eyelash Products are called “Eyelash Conditioners” we understand because they are not “prescription” or “FDA approved” they  cannot “claim” or say they are growth products yet the thousands of satisfied users claim they offer extraordinary results comparable to Latisse. As we are told, the wording or claim of growth implies it must be classified as a drug. From our understanding Revitalash Eyelash Conditioner contains similar proprietary ingredients as Latisse, yet a tube of Revitalash will last you 4-5 months at $134.95 vs. Latisse an average for $120 for a 1 month supply. Not too mention you don’t need a prescription. Does it have to be FDA approved to “work” well according to many revitalash and other lash product users apparently not, it’s simply up to you if you want to obtain a prescription or pay more to try one  product over another.  We have heard from many satisfied revitalash and md factor users that tell us despite being a conditioner their lashes appear incredibly longer and more lush.  Some Latisse users have switched due to side effects and or pricing so the decision is yours!

Now there are also  the many other Eyelash Conditioners that are based on peptide formulations and additional ingredients that “enhance the hair follicle in order to reach it’s maximum potential” (we love the wording..). Again these products vary in price, cannot “say” growth we are told but “may” also offer less side effects then Latisse (apparently this product can change the color of the eye, or skin around the eye) and are all neatly packaged in tubes with brushes for easy application.

The Eyelash Conditioners are all applied in the same manner. Simply use the brush to apply at the very base of the lash line as if applying eyeliner one time a day in the evening. Based on reviews thus far, Revitalash and MD Lash Factor seem to be most popular/effective followed by Jan Marini’s original but hard to find Age Intervention Eyelash Conditioner.  This product however has been discontinued by Jan Marini yet is still available at some resellers.

Revitalash, MD Lash Factor, Jan Marini & Dermaquest Eyelash Conditioners are sold Exclusively by Licensed Salons and Medi Spas.
